Political parties in India, regardless of regulations, receive the majority of their funding from public and corporate donations, according to the Centre. Parties are not required to disclose details of donors contributing less than Rs 20,000, resulting in a significant portion of income being classified as unknown. In 2021-22, 66% of the eight national parties' income came from unknown sources, including electoral bonds. The BJP, TMC, and Congress had high percentages of income from unknown sources.
