The Delhi HC has ordered Rs 5 lakh compensation to a widow, who was denied relief on the ground that her husband wasn't killed in the course of his duty as a driver but when he was helping accident victims. The court invoked internationally recognized Good Samaritan laws to emphasize the importance of legal protection for individuals who provide help out of benevolence. These laws shield rescuers from being sued if the rescue fails, except in cases of gross negligence or recklessness.
