Don’t reduce SC to ‘tarikh pe tarikh’ court: CJI Chandrachud

Chief Justice D Y Chandrachud has urged lawyers to refrain from seeking adjournments for trivial reasons, as it gives a negative impression of the Supreme Court. He referred to the film 'Damini', where the phrase 'tarikh pe tarikh' (date after date) became popular due to the delay in court proceedings. Lawyers have been requested to limit the use of adjournment slips, as they hinder the expeditious hearing of pending cases. The average number of adjournment requests between September 1 and November 3 was 154 per day.
